The Certified Flue Gas Venting course examines various ATSM product standards to understand how their temperature ratings are established when tested against contemporary gas-fired appliances standards. Subsequently, we will analyze in detail the methodology used to determine a material's temperature rating in accordance with UL 1738, and compare this to the previously mentioned appliance standards. A comprehensive review of the UL 1738 standard will be conducted, focusing on key material and system performance tests that verify the suitability of the products for their intended use. These tests encompass low-temperature resilience, UV light exposure, resistance to acidic conditions, torque testing, and heat cycling. Additionally, a summary of current model codes will be provided, alongside best practices and design considerations for venting system installations. The session will conclude with an update on market adoption and a review of the certified products currently available.
